A mixture of 2-chloro-N-(2-chloro-6-methoxy-5-nitropyrimidin-4-yl)-5-(2,3-difluoro-6-methoxybenzyloxy)-4-methoxyaniline (0.1 g), dimethylamine hydrochloride (41 mg) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (0.13 mL) in acetonitrile (2 mL) was stirred at 60° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with water, and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration. The crystals were washed with water and diethyl ether, and dried under reduced pressure to give 2-chloro-5-(2,3-difluoro-6-methoxybenzyloxy)-N-(6-methoxy-2-dimethylamino-5-nitropyrimidin-4-yl)-4-methoxyaniline (86 mg). The title compound was prepared in a similar manner to that described in Example 171 using this material instead of ethyl 2-[4-chloro-2-(2-fluoro-6-methoxybenzyloxy)-4-(6-methoxy-2-methoxymethyl-5-nitropyrimidin-4-ylamino)phenoxy]acetate.
