Dissolve 1-{2-[4-(2-benzyloxy-6-methoxy-naphthalen-1-yloxy)-phenoxy]-ethyl}-azepane (19 g, 38 mmol) in ethyl acetate (500 mL) and methanol (600 ml Heat the mixture to obtain a clear solution. Wash the organic layer with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution (2×200 mL), dry with magnesium sulfate, filter and evaporate solvent under reduced pressure to give 15.1 g (97%) of 1-[4-(2-azepan-1-yl-ethoxy)-phenoxy]-6-methoxy-naphthalen-2-ol.
