A solution of 4-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-2-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine (943 mg, 4.28 mmol) in 37% HCl (18 ml) was heated at 100° C. for 21 hours. The mixture was diluted with water then basified with solid NaHCO3. The suspension was extracted with DCM; the organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to give the title compound that was used without further purification in the next step (725 mg, 89% yield)
