Procedure

A mixture of [2-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-3H-benzoimidazol-5-yl]-methanol (750 mg) and MnO2 (5 g) in THF (10 mL) was stirred at ambient temperature for 4 h. The mixture was filtered through Celite and the filtrate evaporated to give 2-(2,6-dimethyl-phenyl)-3H-benzoimidazole-5-carbaldehyde as an oil. MS (ESI)m/z 251 (M+H).
