Benzaldehyde → 1-Phenyl-1-propanol
Reaction equation
C([Zn][CH2:4][CH3:5])C.[CH:6](=[O:13])[C:7]1[CH:12]=[CH:11][CH:10]=[CH:9][CH:8]=1>>[C:7]1([CH:6]([OH:13])[CH2:4][CH3:5])[CH:12]=[CH:11][CH:10]=[CH:9][CH:8]=1Participants

Procedure
In an embodiment, the present disclosure relates to the use of the chiral ligands in asymmetric synthetic applications. Ligand 7a, derived from the more polar diastereomer 5a, was used as a chiral catalyst in the reaction between diethylzinc and benzaldehyde. The reaction provided 1-phenylpropan-1-ol in 46% yield and 60% ee (Scheme 8).
