The subtitle compound was prepared from 3,5-bis[bromomethyl]benzoic acid ethyl ester (5.18 g) and phenol (1.45 g) in dimethylformamide (10 ml) by the method of example 7 step (i). Yield after chromatography, eluting with 10% ethyl acetate in isohexane, 2.13 g of a mixture containing 15% product and 85% diphenoxy compound.
