Procedure
Diethylamine (102 parts) was added dropwise to a suspension of the 5,6,7-trichloro-2-trifluoromethylbenzimidazole-4-sulphonyl chloride (136 parts) in acetone (400 parts) cooled in an ice bath to maintain a temperature of about 30°C. After the addition of all the diethylamine, the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes and then poured into excess ice/water. The resulting solution was acidified with concentrated hydrochloric acid to precipitate a cream solid which was filtered off, washed with water and dried to give 5,6,7-trichloro-N,N-diethyl-2-trifluoromethylbenzimidazole-4-sulphonamide (144 parts, 97% yield), melting point 155°-157°C.
