Isobutyryl chloride (19 μL, 0.18 mmol) was added to a solution of triethylamine (25 μL, 0.18 mmol) and 4,5-bis-(4-chloro-phenyl)-2-(2,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole (70 mg, 0.164 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. It was diluted with methylene chloride and washed with water and brine, and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvents were removed under reduced pressure and chromatography of the residue over silica gel using 0.5-1% methanol in methylene chloride gave 1-[4,5-bis-(4-chloro-phenyl)-2-(2,4-dimethoxy-phenyl)-4,5-dihydro-imidazole-1-yl]-2-methyl-propan-1-one. HR-MS (EI, m/z) calculated for C27H26N2O3Cl2 (M+) 496.1320, observed 496.1319.
