A solution of 3,7-dibenzyl-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-9-one (10.0 g; 29.8 mmol; Bionet), ethylene glycol (20 g) and p-TSA (12.5 g; 65.7 mmol) in toluene (200 mL) was refluxed in a Dean-Stark apparatus for 12 h. NaOH (200 mL, 2M) was added and the organic layer separated, dried and concentrated to give the sub-title compound in a quantitative yield.
