Procedure
A mixture of 3-quinuclidinone hydrochloride (5.00 g, 30.9 mmol), 2,2 dimethoxypropane (50 ml), and methanesulfonic acid (0.1 ml) was refluxed for 8 h. The reaction mixture was poured in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer (20 ml) and washed 4 times with ethyl acetate. The aqueous phase was made basic by the addition of 4 M NaOH. Extraction with 3 portions of ethyl acetate gave, after drying and evaporation the title compound as a colorless oil. Yield 4.00 g (75%).
