A solution of 2-(2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-4-yl)-ethanol (1.13 g) in dichloromethane (11 ml) was treated with triethylamine (1.25 ml), followed by methanesulfonyl chloride (0.64 ml). After 5 min the reaction mixture was poured into 2M hydrochloric acid (10 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (2×10 ml). The combined extracts were washed with water (10 ml), dried (Na2SO4) and the solvent evaporated to give the title compound (1.76 g) as a yellow oil.
