To a solution of (4RS,5SR)-5-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-((4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)methyl)-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one (5 g, 14.7 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 ml) was added 60% sodium hydride (710 mg, 17.7 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 min. To the reaction solution was added methyl iodide (5 ml, 80 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 1 hr. The reaction solution was diluted with water (300 ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (200 ml×2). The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from diisopropyl ether-hexane to give (4RS,5SR)-5-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-methyl-4-((4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)methyl)-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one (4.76 g, 91%).
