Procedure

To a solution of (2RS,3RS)-3-(5-chloro-2-thienyl)-3-hydroxy-2-[3-(1,1,2,2 tetrafluoroethoxy)benzyl]propionic acid (8.996 g, 21.79 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (80 ml) were added triethylamine (3.65 ml, 26.2 mmol) and diphenylphosphoryl azide (6.60 g, 24.0 mmol), and the mixture was heated under reflux overnight. The solvent of the reaction solution was evaporated under reduced pressure and the obtained crude product was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=3/1-1/1) to give the objective substance.
