Procedure

3-(2-Chlorophenothiazin-10-yl) piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (4.1 g, 9.83 mmol) was dissolved in diethyl ether (200 mL), and the solution cooled to 0° C. A solution of HCl in ethyl acetate (˜4 M, 30 mL) was slowly added. The mixture was allowed to warn to room temperature and stirred for 8 h. The solvent was removed under vacuum. The residue treated with HCl in ethyl acetate (˜4 M, 75 mL) and stirred overnight. The solvent was removed under vacuum to provide 2-chloro-10-piperidin-3-yl-10H-phenothiazine (3.98 g, 100%) as an off-white solid.
