To a solution of tert-butyl 2-difluoromethoxyimino-3-phenyliminobutyrate (0.76 g) in tetrahydrofuran (3.8 ml) was added 1N hydrochloric acid (3.64 ml) under ice-cooling. After being stirred at 20° C. for 1.5 hours, the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The separated organic layer was washed with water three times, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give tert-butyl 2-difluoromethoxyimino-3-oxobutyrate (0.55 g).
