To a suspension of 2-nitrothieno[2,3-b]pyridin-3-amine (1.1 g, 5.6 mmol) in EtOH (60 mL) was added Raney Ni (1 g), followed by slow addition of N2H4.H2O (1.4 g, 22 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. A solution of HCl in EtOAc (1 M, 18 mL, 18 mmol) was added to the reaction mixture slowly, and the mixture was filtered. The filter cake was washed with EtOAc (20 mL×3), then dried under reduced pressure to give the crude product as a yellow solid (2.7 g). ESI MS: m/z 166 [M+H]+.
