Procedure

tert-Butyl methyl(5-nitro-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-6-yl)carbamate (2.2 g, 7.1 mmol) in 2.0 M hydrochloric acid in Et2O (30 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The volatiles were removed to give N-methyl-5-nitro-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-6-amine (1.42 g, 95% yield). ESI MS: m/z 211 [M+H]+.
