To a solution of 4-methoxyphenol (74 mg, 0.59 mmol) in THF (2.5 mL) was added potassium tert-butoxide (52 mg, 0.46 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 3 h, then methyl 2-(2-bromoethyl)-1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-7-carboxylate (80 mg, 0.26 mmol) in DMF (2.5 mL) was added and the resulting mixture was stirred at rt overnight. The mixture was then concentrated to afford methyl 2-[2-(4-methoxyphenoxy)ethyl]-1-oxo-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-7-carboxylate. LC-MS: (FA) ES+354.
