To a stirred solution of methyl 5-bromo-2-methyl-3-((tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl)amino)benzoate (400 mg, 1.22 mmol) and 2-methoxyacetaldehyde (1.3 mg, 17.56 mmol) in 7 ml of dichloroethane, acetic acid (0.42 mL, 7.33 mmol) was added and stirred at room temperature for 20 minutes. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0° C. and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (777 mg, 3.66 mmol) was added and stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction mixture was then neutralized with sat. NaHCO3 and extracted with DCM, and the organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, concentrated under reduced pressure to get 260 mg of crude product.
