Procedure
Cyclopentanecarbonyl chloride (0.12 g) is added to the trifluoroacetic acid salt of (2R,6R,11R)-8-methoxy-6,11-dimethyl-7,9-dinitro-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexahydro-2,6-methano-benzo[d]azocine (0.43 g) and triethylamine (0.31 mL) dissolved in dichloromethane (10 mL). The resulting solution is stirred at room temperature overnight. Then, aqueous Na2CO3 solution is added and the resulting mixture is extracted with dichloromethane. The combined extracts are washed with water and dried (Na2SO4) and the solvent is evaporated. The residue is purified by HPLC on reversed phase (MeCN/H2O) to give the product as a white solid.
