Procedure
To a solution of [1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-cyclohexyl]-acetic acid (1.2 g) in dichloromethane (9.7 ml) was added N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (577 mg). The mixture was cooled in an ice bath. 1,1′-Carbonyldiimidazole (1.01 g) was added. The mixture was stirred for 5 min at 0° C. and for 2 days at room temperature. A mixture of water and 1 M HCl was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to dryness. The product was purified by chromatography (20 g NH3-modified SiO2, cyclohexane/ethyl acetate 1:0 to 3:2) to give the title compound (1.13 g) as a colorless oil, MS (ESI+): m/z=292.2 [M+H]+.
