Procedure

A solution of ethyl 3-(1-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethyl)pyrrolidin-2-yl)propanoate (2 g) and NaH (2 g, 60% weight) in DMF was stirred at 40° C. for 10 mins. The completion of reaction was monitored by TLC. After the suspension was quenched with water (30 mL), the solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×100 mL) and the combined organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4. The desired product (230 mg) was obtained by column chromatography. MS (ESI): 212 (MH+).
