Procedure
A solution of methyl 12-oxo-7,8,9,10,11,12-hexahydro-6H-cycloocta[d]pyrido[1,2-a]-pyrimidine-3-carboxylate (80 mg, 0.28 mmol) and LiOH H2O in MeOH (5 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 0.5 h. The reaction mixture was adjusted to pH around 6 with 1 N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×25 mL). The combined ethyl acetate layers were washed with brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration and concentration, the crude product was used for the next step without further purification.
