To a solution of 4-(5-chloro-6-cyclopropylpyridin-3-yloxy)-3-(2-methoxypyridin-3-yl)benzonitrile (Preparation 39, 478 mg, 1.27 mmol) in dimethyl sulfoxide (5 mL) was added potassium carbonate (1.05 g, 7.62 mmol) followed by a 30% aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide (650 μL, 6.35 mmol). The reaction was stirred 1 hour at room temperature. Water (50 mL) was added and the solution was extracted by ethyl acetate (3×20 mL). The organic layers were combined, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude material was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with 3% methanol in dichloromethane to afford the title compound as a white solid (528 mg, 87%).
