Procedure

To a solution of 2-{2-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]ethoxy}ethyl 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (5.00 g) in THF (40 mL) was added diethylamine (14.5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight, and 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution was added. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (3.77 g).
