Procedure
To a solution of 4-methyl-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol (5 g) and triethylamine (4.75 mL) in THF (40 mL) was added acetic anhydride (3.48 g), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was concentrated, saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution was added to the residue, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (6.04 g).
