[2-Oxo-3-(1-phenyl-ethylidene)-2,3-dihydro-indol-1-yl]-acetic acid methyl ester (50 mg, 0.16 mmol) was dissolved in menthol 1 ml; then 0.1 ml water was added. Finally, lithium hydroxide (10 mg) was added. The mixture was stirred overnight. The reaction was monitored by HPLC. When the reaction was finished, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in 2 ml DMF for prepared HPLC to give [2-oxo-3-(1-phenyl-ethylidene)-2,3-dihydro-indol-1-yl]-acetic acid as white powder (11 mg). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm 2.82 (s, 3H) 4.61 (s, 2H) 6.20 (d, J=7.58 Hz, 1H) 6.66-6.73 (m, 2H) 7.14 (t, J=7.58 Hz, 1H) 7.31 (s, 2H) 7.46-7.54 (m, 3H). MS calcd. for C18H15NO3 293, obsd. (ESI+) [(M+H)+]294.1.
