Lithium hydroxide (0.70 g, 29.1 mmol) and water (20 ml) were added to a solution of (4-fluorophenyl)methyl 2-{[(4-fluorophenyl)methyl]oxy}-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzoate (may be prepared as described in Description 118; 4.1 g, 9.71 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) and the mixture was heated to reflux for 2 hours. The mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure on a buchi. Water (100) ml was added and the mixture was acidified to pH=1 using 2M aqueous hydrochloric acid. The precipitate was filtered and washed with water (2×50 ml). The solid was dried in air, under vacuum to yield the title compound as a white solid. 2.39 g
