Procedure
To a solution of 2,5-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (1 g, 4.63 mmol) in isopropanol (20 mL) was added hydrazine monohydrate (2.021 mL, 41.7 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 70° C. for 16 h. The reaction was concentrated. The residue was taken up in ethyl acetate and the insoluble material was removed by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated to give the title compound as a tan solid (0.94 g). LCMS m/z=212.0 [M+H]+; 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 4.39 (s, 2H), 7.11 (s, 1H), 8.19 (s, 1H), 8.25 (s, 1H).
