A solution of Ethyl 2-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-7-yl)acetate (257 mg, 1.16 mmol) in DMF (2 mL) was added NaH (50 mg, 1.25 mmol) and iodomethane (167 mg, 1.18 mmol) in DMF (0.5 mL) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred for 1 hrs at 0° C. then diluted with H2O (20 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (20 mL). The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel using EtOAc:hexanes (1:6) as eluant.
