Procedure
To a solution of 2-chloro-7-fluoroquinoline-3-carboxaldehyde (6.3 g, 30 mmol) in dry THF (200 mL) under nitrogen was added titanium(IV) isopropoxide (17.0 g, 60 mmol) and the reaction mixture stirred at r.t. for 10 minutes. (R)-(−)-2-Methyl-2-propane-sulfinamide (3.6 g, 30 mmol) was added to the reaction mixture, which was stirred at r.t. for 72 h and partitioned between water (20 mL) and DCM (150 mL). The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (7.2 g, 76%) as a pale yellow solid. δH (CDCl3) 9.09 (1H, s), 8.83 (1H, s), 7.96 (1H, dd, J=6.0 Hz), 7.69 (1H, d, J=7.2 Hz), 7.42 (1H, t, J=8.4 Hz), 1.32 (9H, s).
