Procedure

Oxalyl chloride (0.232 mL, 2.70 mmol) was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (15 mL) and the solution was cooled to −78° C. A solution of DMSO (0.383 mL, 5.40 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) was added dropwise and the mixture was stirred for 10 minutes at this temperature. Then, a solution of INT 55 (329 mg, 1.079 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (3 mL) was added dropwise and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour at this temperature. NEt3 (0.932 mL, 6.69 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred further at −78° C. for 1 hour and the mixture was quenched with water. The mixture was poured onto 10% aqueous KHSO4 and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution and brine, dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The product was used in the next step without further purification.
