1M Aqueous NaOH (0.25 mL) is added to a stirring solution of [1-(3-chloro-4-methyl-benzenesulfonyl)-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl]-acetic acid methyl ester (80 mg, 0.20 mmol) in 1:1 dioxane/water (2 mL). After 2.5 hours, the reaction mixture is acidified to pH 1 with 1M HCl which leads to the formation of a precipitate. The solid is isolated by filtration, washed with water and dried to afford [1-(3-chloro-4-methyl-benzenesulfonyl)-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl]-acetic acid; MH+=379.
