13.0 g(87.5 mmol) of 4-methyl-5-imidazolemethanol hydrochloride, 13.5 g(89.6 mmol) of t-butylchlorodimethylsilane and 14.5 g(105 mmol) of potassium carbonate were added to 200 ml of dimethylformamide and the resulting mixture was stirred for 3 days. After dimethylformamide was removed under reduced pressure, 500 ml of ethylacetate was added to the residue which was then washed with aqueous sodium chloride solution (200 ml×3). The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated to give 5.4 g(23.9 mmol, Yield 27%) of the title compound.
