This product was prepared using the same procedure as for Intermediate 1 with tryptamine (1.28 g, 8.0 mmol), indan-5-carboxaldehyde (1.3 g, 1.1 equiv.) and TFA (1.2 mL, 2 equiv.) to give the title compound (0.36 g, 14%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.6 (s, 1H), 7.4 (m, 1H), 6.9-7.2 (m, 6H), 5.1 (s, 1H), 3.3-3.4 (m, 1H), 2.9-3.1 (m, 1H), 2.7-2.9 (m, 6H), 1.9-2.2 (q, 2H).
