Procedure
A melt of 10.1 g (0.038 mol) of 1-(6,7-dichloro-3,4-dihydro-2-naphthyl)pyrrolidine, 5.36 g (0.075 mol) of acrylamide and 0.3 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid is stirred under nitrogen at 100° for 2 hours and at 150° for 2 hours. Recrystallization of the melt cake from ethanol yields 8,9-dichloro-1,4,5,6-tetrahydrobenzo[f]quinolin-3(2H)-one with melting point 260°-261°.
