To a solution of 0.0551 g (0.155 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) of 3-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2-trimethylsilyl-N-methyl-1H-indole-5-methanesulfonamide in 2 mL of methylene chloride at 0° C. was added 0.01 mL (0.155 mmol, 1.0 equiv.) of trifluoroacetic acid. After 15 minutes the reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature. After a total of thirty minutes the reaction was poured into 15 mL of ethyl acetate and washed with 5 mL of saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to yield 0.0413 g (95%) of 3-(3-hydroxypropyl)-N-methyl-1H-indole-5-methanesulfonamide, homogeneous by 1H NMR and TLC.
