A mixture of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(3-pyridyl)-2-propen-1-ol (0.692 g, 2.8 mmol), triethylamine (3.3 ml) and 4-dimethylaminopyridine (85 g) was stirred in acetic anhydride (0.9 ml) at 25° C. for 20 h. Methanol (1 ml) was added and after 10 min the mixture was concentrated in vacuo. Ether (25 ml) was added and the ether phase was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution (3×15 ml) and dried over MgSO4. Evaporation of the solvent gave 0.725 g (90%) of the title compound, which was used in the palladium catalyzed amination according to Example 16.
