Procedure

The compound of Example 15 (2.0 g, 0.0059) was added to trifluoroacetic acid (5 ml). After several minutes methyl thioglycolate (0.63 g) was added, and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The trifluoroacetic acid was evaporated with a gentle flow of nitrogen gas. The residue was dissolved in diethyl ether (50 ml) and washed twice with 2 ml of 0.25 N NaOH, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to an oil. The product was purified by silica gel chromatography to give a colorless oil. The structure was supported by NMR, infrared and elemental analysis.
