A mixture of 2-acetylamino-5-bromothiazole (1 g), 3-mercaptopyridine hydrochloride (1 g) and potassium carbonate (1.5 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was heated at 90° C. for 4.5 hours with stirring. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water. The precipitates were collected by filtration, washed with water and dried in vacuo to give 2-acetylamino-5-(3-pyridylthio)thiazole (0.9 g, yield: 81.8%). mp: 203°-205° C. (dec.) IR (Nujol): 3170, 1700, 1570, 1300 cm-1
