N-boc-4-methyl-4-piperidinecarboxylic acid (4 g, 16 mol), 4-Fluorobenzeneboronic acid (2.7 g, 20 mol), Pivalic anhydride (4.6 g, 25 mmol), Pd(OAc)2 (0.111 g, 0.4 mol), 1,1′-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (0.319 g, 0.1 mol) and (0.7 mL, 41 mmol) of water were mixed together in 20 mL of tetrahydrofuran and the mixture heated at 60° C. overnight. The reaction mixture was filtrated and the solvent was removed under vacuum. The residue was purified with column chromatography on silica using n-heptane-EtOAc (4:1) to yield 0.216 g (5%) of the title compound. MS (m/e): 322.0 (M+H+).
