4-(3-Benzyloxy-benzylidene)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (534 mg, 1.4 mmol) from Step 2 was dissolved in CH2Cl2 (5 mL) and treated with trifluoroacetic acid (1.05 mL, 14.1 mmol). After 2 hours, the solution was concentrated to provide the title compound which was used without further purification (550 mg).
