A mixture of 5-iodo-N,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (139 mg, 0.32 mmol), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine) palladium(0) (1.8 mg, 1.6 μmol), copper(I) iodide (0.6 mg 3.2 μmol), 1-chloro-4-ethynylbenzene (87 mg, 0.638 mmol) and DIEA (64 mg, 0.5 mmol) in acetonitrile (1.5 ml) was heated in a microwave oven to 70° C. for 0.5 h. After cooling, the reaction mixture was purified by flash chromatography to give 5-[(4-chlorophenyl)ethynyl]-N,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-1-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (111 mg, 78%).
