Procedure

A mixture of 6-butyl-3-(2,2-dimethylpropyl)-2-(methoxymethyl)-5-{[2′-(5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl}pyrimidin-4(3H)-one (0.5 g), boron tribromide (1.0 M dichloromethane solution, 2.9 mL) and dichloromethane (20 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hr, 0.5 M aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (10 mL) was added, and the mixture was further stirred for 1 hr. To the reaction mixture was added 1 M hydrochloric acid and adjusted to pH 5. Ethyl acetate was added, and the mixture was extracted. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a colorless solid (0.48 g, 98%).
