Procedure

A mixture of 6-(1-fluoroethyl)-2-propylpyrimidin-4(3H)-one (5.7 g), 4′-(bromomethyl)biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (9.3 g) and potassium carbonate (8.5 g) in acetonitrile (50 mL) was stirred overnight at 50° C. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed with 1 M hydrochloric acid, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give the title compound as a pale yellow solid (5 g, 43%).
