A solution of methyl 2-[3-(2-tert-butoxy-2-oxoethyl)-2-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl]-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylate from Step B (195 mg, 0.501 mmol) in EtOAc (3 mL) at 0° C. was saturated with HCl (g) for 5 min. After 15 min, the reaction was re-saturated with HCl for another 5 min. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as a white solid. MS: m/z=334 (M+1).
