A solution of 1-(3-ethoxy-3-oxo-1-phenylpropyl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid (40 mg, 118 μmol) in a mixture of hydrochloric acid (10 mL of a 5N solution) and acetonitrile (6 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 72 hours. The solution was evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound, [LCMS (Method A, Mobile Phase I) RT=5.26 min, MH+ 311].
