Procedure
To a solution of 4-isobutyl-3-methyl-thiophene-2-carbonitrile (2.10 g, 11.7 mmol) in methanol (50 mL), NaHCO3 (1.38 g, 16.4 mmol) followed by hydroxylamine hydrochloride (977 mg, 14.1 mmol) is added. The mixture is stirred at 60° C. for 20 h before it is filtered. The solvent of the filtrate is evaporated and the remaining residue is dried under HV go give N-hydroxy-4-isobutyl-3-methyl-thiophene-2-carboxamidine (3.0 g) as a yellow solid; LC-MS: tR=0.67 min.
