Procedure
To a solution of ethyl 3-(3-fluoro-4-{[3-(2-oxopropoxy)benzyl]oxy}phenyl)propanoate (0.31 g, 0.82 mmol) in ethanol-water (2 mL-1 mL) was added lithium hydroxide monohydrate (0.052 g, 1.23 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. To the reaction mixture was added 2 N hydrochloric acid (0.7 mL), and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water, and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane to give the title compound (0.047 g, yield 17%) as white powders.
