20 g (201.8 mmol) of 5-amino-2H-pyrazol-3-ol and 26 g (224 mmol) of methyl 3-oxo-butyrate were heated under reflux in 63 ml of conc. hydrochloric acid and 17 ml of water for 1 h. After cooling, the product crystallized and was filtered off with suction and dried. Yield: 16.54 g (50%), M+H+: 166.07.
